A new challenge is trending on Twitter after the appointment of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the director-general of the World Trade Organization on Monday. The appointment makes her the first African and first woman to lead the organisation.
The challenge was initiated by the chief executive officer of Lifebank Temie Giwa-Tubosun. She tweeted, “We are giving away N100k to the best dressed! Dress up like NOI and send her a message of support as she goes to WTO,” with a video of her dressed like Okonjo-Iweala.
Okonjo-Iweala-Iweala served as Nigeria’s finance minister and spent 25 years at the World Bank, where she rose to the number-two position of managing director.
Twitter users believe this is a breath of fresh air, as this challenge depicts a positive message. It has inspired many young girls and women alike and they are all happy to celebrate her success
Her appointment was not easy though, as she was challenged by ex US President, Donald Trump. Trump highly supported South Korea Trade Minister Yoo Myung-hee despite the fact that Okonjo- Iweala was preferred among ambassadors of the organization. However, current President, Joe Biden, has endorsed her.
A user named, Ifeoluwa Dare-Johnson tweeted, ‘I am super proud to do this. #BelikeNgoziChallenge. Congratulations ma @NOIweala.You keep raising the bar 🙌🏻’ alongside pictures of her dressed like the spectacular 66 year old woman.
