“The mass closure of schools is counterproductive, unconstitutional, and disastrous. I hereby strongly advise that the federal government should stop mass closure”
The founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), Mr. Afe Babalola has condemned the mass closure of schools by the government due to the second wave of COVID-19.
He argued that all schools, especially private institutions that have required health facilities and have complied with the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, should not be shut down.
In his argument, He quoted the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson who said: “COVID-19 is a disaster while the closure of schools is more disastrous. Keeping schools closed for a longer period than it is necessary is socially intolerable, economically unsustainable, and morally indecisive.”
Mr. Babalola was reacting to a statement made by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, that the January 18, earlier set by the federal government for schools resumption might be reviewed.
