How To Acquire Power Faster Even As An Amateur

In our world today, many people still believe that to acquire power, you must be deceptive, exert force, and disregard people around you.

This view on power has been held for 400 years now. It’s originated from a movement called Machiavellianism.

Machiavellianism is not new terminology, especially among political scientists and political psychologists. It was brought fought by NiccolΓ² Machiavelli in his 16th Century book, “The Prince.”

In psychology, Machiavellianism refers to a personality trait that sees a person so focused on his interests. The person manipulates, deceives, and exploits others to achieve his goals.

In his book, Niccolo Machiavelli advocated a view involving cunning, deceit, and the notion that “means justify the ends”.

Machiavelli was also famous for asserting that, ” it is better to be feared than loved,” and also expressed that “whoever desires constant success must change his conduct with the times.”

While people still hold on to his main view of being manipulative to gain power, they forget that time has changed. They forget Machiavelli’s later statement that “whoever desires constant success must change his conduct with times.”

The idea of being manipulative and deceitful may have worked in the past and invariably may still be working today.

But power gained through this method does not last. People are more intelligent and sensitive to matters concerning power than in the past.

How Do You Acquire power even as an Amateur?

A terrible mistake any young person would make in this 21st century is to start his quest for acquiring power on the foundation of being manipulative, cunning, and deceitful. A person may successfully acquire power using this foundation, but it will not last.

Yes. Have expertise. When you have in-depth information and knowledge in a particular area that solves people’s problems, you will be able to command attention and gain power.

But in doing this, let your intention be genuine. Don’t be deceptive and manipulative for your gain. Make it a win-win thing and you will have enduring power.

“We no longer earn power by being self-focused, but by consistently acting in ways that improve the lives of others. Power is expressed in advocacy, compassion, respect, attentiveness to human feelings, and gratitude toward others,” says U.C. Berkeley social scientist, Dacher Keltner.

Although many people acquire power today by first caring for the success and well-being of others in their chosen fields, they often turn otherwise once they gain the power.

This confirms the famous assertion of the 19th century that “power corrupts, ” which was made by British historian, Lord Acton. Once people reach this point, they begin to abuse power. Of course, their power may not tarry at this point. It will diminish gradually.

The key to possessing enduring Power today whether, in business, politics, or any field is by continuously caring for other people’s success and well-being.

β€œAnd when individuals use their power to advance the greater good, the evidence is also clear that they and the people they empower prove to be happier, healthier, and sustainably more productive,” says Keltner.

Although there is a popular saying that is propagated in our society that “Nice guys finish last.” And that to be powerful, you have to step on the toes of others and manipulate them.

But the truth cannot be far fetched. Nice guys don’t finish last.

Numerous experiments validate this assertion and reveal that people who attain enduring power today exhibit that inherently balances mind and heart:

1. Enthusiasm: They express interest in others, advocate on their behalf and take joy in their achievements.

2. Kindness: They cooperate, share, express appreciation and dignify other people.
3. Focus: They establish shared goals and rules, a clear purpose, and keep people on task.
4. Calmness: Through their actions and communication, they instill calm and perspective.
5. Openness: They display empathy and a disciplined process of listening attentively.

Now you have the secret at your disposal, apply it, and make the most of your life.
