Kenya man who chopped off wife’s hand sentenced to 30years in prison

Stephen Ngila Nthenge, a Kenya man who chopped off his wife’s hand in 2016, has been jailed for 30 years by Machako’s court.

Ngila who had been married to Jacqueline Mwende Munyoki for 2 years, chopped off his wife’s hands with a machete at the wrist following a disagreement in 2016.

Appearing before Senior Magistrate Brenda Bartoo, Ngila was sentenced to 30 years in prison for attempted murder with 14 days to appeal. The magistrate said the victim, Mwende, did not need restitution due to the nature of the offence.

Mwende also suffered deep cuts on her head inflicted by her husband. When asked what caused the disagreement, she said he was aggrieved by their childlessness.

The victim approved the court’s verdict saying justice had prevailed at last.

“Ngila thought he had killed me. I give thanks to the Almighty Lord as today I am alive. My husband’s actions affected me. Though I have a new set of hands, at times they are painful”, she said.
